Pettit Kohn’s Christine Mueller Volunteers for Attorney Fantasy Camp
From August 1-5, 2011, Pettit Kohn Associate Christine Mueller along with four other attorneys spent their mornings mentoring gifted elementary and middle school students at Cal State University San Marcos. The program “On My Honor: Civics Symposium for Students” is an interactive program for gifted students to experience first-hand the intricacies of our legal system.
The week long summer symposium is co-sponsored by Cal State University San Marcos, the San Diego Superior Court and the North County Bar Association. The Symposium was conducted at CSUSM and the Vista Courthouse.
The Symposium is designed to provide a fun and interactive learning experience to teach students about the role of the judicial branch through interaction with judges, attorneys and court staff. Students learned about the state and federal court system and the Bill of Rights, and were assigned to represent fictitious clients in a civil or criminal proceeding. The volunteer attorney coaches helped students prepare their case and demonstrated a mock witness examination. On Friday, the students had an opportunity to deliver their closing arguments at the Vista Courthouse.
Attorney mentors include: Larry Campitiello (Sullivan Hill Lewin Rez & Engel), Ron Cozad (Law Offices of Ronald J. Cozad), Wayne Templin (Law Office of Wayne Templin), Susan Curran (Curran & Curran Law), Christine Mueller (Pettit Kohn Ingrassia & Lutz), as well as a volunteer court reporter Mercedes Allen from Shelburne Sherr.
