Pettit Kohn Attorneys Successful in Los Angeles Trial

Pettit Kohn shareholder and ABOTA trial attorney Grant Waterkotte and associate Cameron Flynn recently achieved a successful verdict in a personal injury case in the Downtown Los Angeles Courthouse.  Pettit Kohn’s client, a Church and its attached school, was sued for injuries that occurred when a father of one of the schoolchildren was injured on its premises due to a non-code compliant condition.

The plaintiff sustained serious injuries to his left thumb as a consequence of the incident.  He underwent six different surgeries, and was ultimately left with a permanently deformed and partially dysfunctional hand.

After a week of testimony and argument, the plaintiff asked the jury to award $1,440,000.  The jury deliberated for two days, and ultimately found that the plaintiff was the primary responsible party for his injuries.  In addition, the jury returned a verdict totaling only $181,000, a mere fraction of what the plaintiff sought.  Pettit Kohn’s client was very happy with the result, particularly given that it came out of a particularly plaintiff friendly jurisdiction.
