Pettit Kohn Attorney Erik Johnson Honored by San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program

Pettit Kohn Ingrassia Lutz & Dolin attorney Erik Johnson was recently recognized by the non-profit organization, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program (SDVLP) at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Awards.  Through SDVLP, Erik provided pro bono legal services to the San Diego Hunger Coalition (SDHC), whose mission is to lead coordinated action to end hunger in San Diego County.  Based on his work with the San Diego Hunger Coalition and SDVLP, the SDVLP presented Erik with a “Standout Award” for his contribution and work through the SDVLP’s Microbusiness and Nonprofit Support Project.  The Standout Award is a special recognition presented to volunteers who have excelled in their volunteer efforts throughout the year and have made exceptional contributions to uphold the ideal of equal access to the justice system for all.       

“I am grateful for the opportunity to provide my services to an extremely worthwhile organization like the San Diego Hunger Coalition.  I am equally grateful that San Diego has an organization like the SDVLP, which makes it so easy for local attorneys to provide pro bono legal services,” said Erik.  “It is an honor to be recognized by the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program amongst a group of such dedicated individuals.”

Erik is an attorney in Pettit Kohn’s Employment and Labor group.  He has extensive experience litigating employment and labor matters as well as providing counsel to employers on effective ways to reduce risk of litigation.  He obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law and has volunteered for various non-profit groups throughout his career.  Prior to his career as an attorney, Erik taught at a public school in Harlem through the New York City Teaching Fellows program.

Every year, thousands of San Diegans face life-changing situations and are unable to afford the legal help they need.  Since 1983, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program (SDVLP) has helped thousands of low-income women, children, and men throughout San Diego County.
