Pettit Kohn Obtains $1.0 Million Jury Verdict in Wrongful Death Case

San Diego, CA. – Pettit Kohn Ingrassia & Lutz PC, a southern California law firm, announced that Damian Dolin and Valerie Garcia Hong, Shareholders of the firm, obtained a $1.0 million verdict on behalf of their clients in a wrongful death case – Torres v. Almquist, et al. (Case No. 37-2012-00076304) Mr. Dolin and Ms. Hong tried the case before the Honorable Judith F. Hayes of the San Diego County Superior Court (Central Division) and a jury panel of 12.

In 2011, a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle as she crossed the street in a marked crosswalk in National City, CA.  Pettit Kohn Ingrassia & Lutz represented the decedent’s family and brought suit against the driver of the vehicle and a property owner.  After a five-year legal battle, the case went to trial in September 2016, and lasted ten days.  The jury returned a verdict of $1,034,344 in favor of the decedent’s family after one day of deliberation.

“We were honored to represent the Torres family. They had the quintessential American dream and it was tragically taken away from them. While they will never be made whole, we are grateful that we could help them find some peace and justice,” said Ms. Hong.  The verdict was intended to compensate the family for economic and non-economic damages.
