11/1/12 Pettit Kohn’s Valerie Garcia Hong – Speaker for Asian Pacific American Law Student Association
The Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA) will present a lunchtime panel, titled “Challenges of Being an Asian Attorney.” The panel will be held on November 1, 2012, on the campus of the University of San Diego School of Law from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Panelists will include Valerie Garcia Hong of Pettit Kohn Ingrassia & Lutz, Peter Quon of Office of the Attorney General, Patricia Cowett a Retired Judge and George Ng a Partner at Snell & Wilmer.
Valerie will speak about the challenges Asian attorneys face in the workplace, including any stereotypes about Asians/Asian lawyers that are present and prevalent in the practice of law and how to address them.
Valerie obtained her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law and her Bachelor of Science in Journalism with Honors from the University of Illinois. Valerie has extensive litigation experience representing lawyers, insurance brokers, large commercial companies and small businesses in a variety of matters, including breach of contract, trade secrets and unfair business practices.
Valerie is an Adjunct Professor at California Western School of Law’s STEPPS Program, where she teaches litigation skills and professional responsibility.
APALSA strives to educate and prepare the Asian Pacific American law students and advance their presence in the legal field.
