Four Pettit Kohn Shareholders Recognized by San Diego Business Journal’s Top 100 “Leaders in Law”

Pettit Kohn Ingrassia Lutz & Dolin is proud to announce that four of its shareholders – Douglas Pettit, Andrew Kohn, Jennifer Lutz, and Janice Walshok – were recognized among San Diego’s Top 100 Leaders in Law 2023 by the San Diego Business Journal.  The honorees were selected for their outstanding professional accomplishments in the legal field as well as their involvement in the San Diego business and legal communities.

Douglas Pettit is a founding Shareholder in the firm’s San Diego office. He has extensive trial and litigation experience in the areas of civil litigation, business litigation, and professional liability and has successfully tried over 50 cases in California. He is a widely acclaimed speaker who is frequently invited to speak and provide guidance on ethics, professional liability, and professional malpractice. He has spoken to private firms, attorneys, and professional and business organizations throughout California. In addition, he serves as a lecturer for the University of San Diego School of Law where he teaches a course in Experiential Advocacy. 

Doug’s extraordinary record of favorable outcomes and exemplary client service has resulted in recognition by his peers over the years. He was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates, a premier national organization comprised of highly accomplished civil trial attorneys who have demonstrated excellent trial skill. In addition, he has achieved Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating of AV Preeminent for his legal ability and ethical standards and is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, an honor limited to one third of one percent of the lawyers in America. He has also been recognized by the Best Lawyers in America for his work in Legal Malpractice Law (Defendants), Professional Malpractice Law (Defendants), and Commercial Litigation. Notably, he was selected as Best Lawyers’ 2015, 2018, and 2023 San Diego Legal Malpractice Lawyer of the Year as well as Best Lawyers’ 2024 San Diego Professional Malpractice Lawyer of the Year.

Andrew Kohn is a founding Shareholder and CEO of the firm. He has a wide range of civil litigation and trial experience, primarily in the fields of personal injury (defense), business litigation, and products liability. He represents a broad spectrum of clients and prominent companies defending and advising them on their most complex and important cases. With a litigation career spanning three decades, Mr. Kohn has developed a strong reputation as one of San Diego’s premier trial attorneys. Having tried over 20 cases, he is an accomplished trial attorney, litigator, strategic problem solver, and mediator with an extraordinary record of favorable outcomes and successes in a variety of cases in state and federal courts. 

Drew’s achievements have garnered him many recognitions in the legal community. He has achieved an AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell for his legal ability and ethical standards. He is also an Associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a premier national organization committed to the preservation and betterment of the civil jury process. Drew has also been recognized by Best Lawyers in America© for his work in Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants and Product Liability Litigation – Defendants. In addition, he has been selected for inclusion in the San Diego Super Lawyers® list every year since 2015. He was also named to San Diego Business Journal’s “SD500 Most Influential People in San Diego” 2022, “Leaders in Law” 2021, and “Best of the Bar” 2014, as well as a finalist in San Diego Business Journal’s “CEO of the Year” 2022. Drew’s dedication and commitment have earned him the respect of clients, colleagues, and peers in the legal profession and in the San Diego business community.

Jennifer Lutz is a founding shareholder and co-chair of the firm’s Employment & Labor Team. Her litigation career spans over two decades and she has developed a strong reputation as one of San Diego’s premier and go-to employment law attorneys for both employment litigation and employment counseling. She represents a broad spectrum of clients and prominent companies, defending and advising on their most complex and important cases. She has an extraordinary record of favorable outcomes and successes in a variety of cases in state and federal courts and administrative agencies. 

Jennifer is a widely sought out author and speaker, frequently invited to provide employment practices and employee management training and guidance on issues such as wage and hour law, employee privacy, and leaves of absence. In addition, she serves as an employment law instructor for the UC San Diego Extension. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for her work in both Employment Law – Management and in Labor and Employment Litigation. Super Lawyers named her as one of San Diego’s Top 25 Women Lawyers in 2020 and 2023 and she was also included in the San Diego Business Journal’s Best of the Bar and Women of Influence in Law.

Janice Walshok is a shareholder in the firm’s San Diego office and a leader of the firm’s Transportation and Retail practice groups. With a career spanning over a decade, Ms. Walshok has developed a strong reputation as one of San Diego’s top litigators. She is an accomplished litigation and trial attorney and has represented a broad spectrum of clients and nationally prominent companies defending and advising them on their most complex cases.  She focuses her practice on personal injury-defense and transportation including wrongful death, product liability, and insurance bad faith. Ms. Walshok has successfully tried several jury trials and has argued before the Second District Court of Appeal. She continues to succeed in obtaining early resolutions for her clients by way of summary judgment, motions to strike, and other dispositive motions.

Janice has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for her work in Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants and Product Liability Litigation – Defendants. She has also been selected as a Rising Star by San Diego Super Lawyers each year since 2015, a “Top Attorney” by San Diego Metro Magazine in 2023 and was nominated for the San Diego Business Journal’s Best of the Bar. She is also a leader in the San Diego legal community, having served on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Defense Lawyers. She is also an active member of the California Minority Counsel Program, advocating and promoting diversity and inclusion within the legal profession.
