San Diego Business Journal Recognizes Three Pettit Kohn Shareholders as Top Women of Influence in Law
Pettit Kohn Ingrassia Lutz & Dolin is proud to announce that three of its Shareholders have been honored by the San Diego Business Journal as 2023 “Women of Influence in Law.” Jennifer Lutz, Janice Walshok, and Shannon Finley were recognized among San Diego’s top women lawyers and in-house general counsel. This accolade celebrates female trailblazers in the legal profession who are highly accomplished in their fields and have contributed to positive change within the San Diego community.
Jennifer N. Lutz is a founding Shareholder and co-chair of the firm’s Employment and Labor Department. She represents a broad spectrum of clients and prominent companies, defending and advising on their most complex and important employment cases. She has secured numerous favorable outcomes and successes in a variety of cases in state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Ms. Lutz also is a widely sought out author and speaker – frequently invited to provide best employment practices and employee management training and guidance for private firms, other attorneys, and professional organizations throughout California. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for her work in both Employment Law – Management and in Labor and Employment Litigation; selected for inclusion in the San Diego Super Lawyers list every year since 2011; and named one of San Diego Super Lawyers Top 25 Women Lawyers in 2020 and 2023. Ms. Lutz was also listed as a Top Attorney by San Diego Metro Magazine and the San Diego Business Journal named her among the SD500 Most Influential People in San Diego and one of the Top 100 Leaders in Law. Jennifer has served as Vice President of the National Human Resources Association and Vice President of Legislation for San Diego SHRM, the region’s largest organization of human resource professionals.
Janice Y. Walshok is a Shareholder in the firm’s San Diego office whose practice focuses on transportation and personal injury matters – defending against claims involving wrongful death and product liability. Ms. Walshok’s career spans over a decade, and she has developed a strong reputation as one of San Diego’s top litigators. She is an accomplished trial attorney and has represented a broad spectrum of clients and nationally prominent companies defending and advising them on their most complex cases. Ms. Walshok has successfully tried several jury trials and has argued before the Second District Court of Appeal. Janice is also an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. As the co-chair and co-founder of Pettit Kohn’s Diversity Equity & Inclusion committee, she aims to create fair access, opportunity, and advancement for everyone and helps to build a culture where everyone feels welcome and invited to contribute and participate. She is also a member of the California Minority Counsel Program where she advocates and promotes diversity and inclusion within the legal profession. Janice has been selected as a Rising Star by San Diego Super Lawyers each year since 2015 and was honored as one of the Women of Influence in Law by the San Diego Business Journal in 2021. Most recently, she was recognized by Best Lawyers in America for her work in Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants. As a leader in the San Diego legal community, Ms. Walshok served on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Defense Lawyers.
Shannon R. Finley is a Shareholder in the San Diego office and also serves as the co-founder and co-chair of the firm’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She focuses her practice on employment law. As a skilled litigator, she represents California employers in disputes ranging from single plaintiff wrongful termination cases to complex class actions. In addition, Ms. Finley provides guidance to employers advising on best practices to prevent lawsuits before they arise. Ms. Finley is a speaker and author on issues including best hiring practices, wage and hour law, discrimination, leaves of absence, and social media. She has been recognized by her peers and garnered many accolades, including recognition in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch 2021-2023, San Diego Super Lawyers Rising Stars 2019-2023, and the Lawyers Club of San Diego C. Hugh Friedman New Lawyer Award. She was also recognized as a Top Attorney in San Diego Metro Magazine and honored by the University of San Diego School of Law with the 2022 Rising Star Recent Alumni award for her accomplishments in the legal profession and her contributions to the legal community. Among these contributions are various leadership roles. She is the outgoing president of Lawyers Club of San Diego, the largest specialty bar association in San Diego; a team leader in the J. Clifford Wallace Inn of Court; and past Chair for the Labor & Employment Executive Committee of the San Diego County Bar Association. She also served as an Affiliate Governor on the board of California Women Lawyers and was a scholar in the San Diego County Bar Association’s inaugural Leadership Academy.
